Flat reeds are the initial form of weaving reeds, historically also called comb or weaving comb. The name weaving reed stems from the material used in the beginning: the plant reed, which was used as dent material while the gaps have been created by cord. The construction was finally fixed with pitch.

The subtle difference for your success
Although material hardness, elasticity, surface finish and radii are not easily perceptible, they have a major impact on the productivity of your weaving process. Steven produces all reeds from high-quality stainless steel. To improve the lifetime and stability, we recommend tunnel and flat reeds made from tempered steel. For particularly sensitive yarns and difficult woven fabric constructions, we offer an optimized special polish under the designation HP.
Variants
Flat reeds for rapier and projectile looms are available in dent widths of 4 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm. The range of possible dent thickness is from 0.08 mm up to 1.50 mm. For special applications we can offer also flat reeds made of round wire. For the selvage we offer individual solutions such as reinforced selvages, selvages with different pitch and or different dent thicknesses.
